I want to be Felicia Day when I grow up.

I just learned that she is really active over at Goodreads and has read a jillion books. This is me over there, BTW.

Student, after watching my teacher direct our nude model into a contorted pretzel pose:

"Looks like he just got hit by a truck."

There were other suggestions, such as 'just fell off a 20-story building' but I think the crash scene was pretty accurate XD.

[spoiler-ish for The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss]

"It's a dragon," Denna whispered. "Tehlu hold and overroll us. It's a dragon."
"It's not a dragon," I said. "There's no such thing as dragons."
"Look at it!" she hissed at me. "It's right there! Look at the huge Goddamn dragon!"
"It's a draccus," I said.
"It's Goddamn huge," Denna said with a tinge of hysteria in her voice. "It's a Goddamn huge dragon and it's going to come over here and eat us."

- Chapter 76

This book was so good. I recommend it x1000.

Star Wars Episode III: The Backstroke of the West

Found this via grrliz/killsmedead. I am crying a little bit from laughing so hard.

I recently found Kelly Vivanco's work and am very much in love. Please go check them out (click the thumbnail above). I wish I could own prints of them all.

I have to go to work, so instead of something insightful and thought-poking, you get this - my monster name decoded.

Edge of Night (Pippin's Song)

The link above is not to the song, just a 2 minute clip on how it was written (by Pippin/Billy Boyd!). I cried hard during LotR: Return of the King when it came out, and I think this part of the movie was the saddest and most frustrating part. The song has incredibly beautiful lyrics, and the contrast is hard between his soft voice and the battle scene.

I haven't read fanfic in so long, and I used to love it XD. My favorite ship was (still is) Draco/Hermione, and I joined all the lj communities related to fanfic and dramione at one point. The one I remember the most is The Draco Trilogy, by Cassandra Clare. There was a lot of controversy surrounding it regarding plagiarism from popular shows, but it was one of the most entertaining fanfics. Cassandra Clare went on to publish a bestselling book years later, titled City of Bones.

I am reading (almost finished with) Sunshine right now. I borrowed it from the library on the basis that the cover had a quote from Neil Gaiman, saying, "Pretty much perfect." So far it is really interesting, and don't let the cover fool you if it reminds you of a vampire romance novel. I was wary when I picked it up, but there has only been one moment in it so far, which was not so much romantic, although it was momentarily explicit. I am enjoying that part of the novel - the main character isn't head over heels in love with a vampire; she's more absolutely terrified and wants to get on with her life. Can't wait to finish it tonight!

I don't normally read non-fiction; I have nothing against it. It would probably take me ages to get through one, though. I have just started checking out some audio books, and while I'm not a reader of non-fiction, it's easier to listen to it. Right now I'm listening to The Big Burn, and it is so far really excellent at bringing history to life. The author has a jaunty writing style, and I am learning more about Teddy Roosevelt than I've ever known, which was not much to begin with.

There's going to be a movie?

I'm torn between hopeful and horrified.

I don't know what year this was taken, but it is of my cousin and me. I remember being mad at her because she was reading to me and acting so much older, when she was only a year older XD.

This is a photo taken last month. I'm actually looking at my boyfriend here, but I did not think he would want to be posted all over the interwebs. Behold my giant Jew nose haha.

I took this outside my house. I live in rural SC and travel to the capital city daily to go to class 'cause I'm broke. Sometimes it is nice out here, although the chicken scent can be quite robust.

I can't imagine being married to a guy with 4 other wives. This man has 239 grandchildren. Is it really your "celestial duty" to continue overpopulating the earth? I love kids, but it helps to be reasonable. See the rest of the pics here.

THIS IS A MOVIE WHICH MUST BE SEEN.

I really hope this movie comes out this year. I stole this link from bondchick_nett.

BtVS - 13 second video

I think Buffy has 90% of my favorite television quotes of all time. Joss Whedon will always be my hero; I wish I could be as witty and inventive as him. I could have picked a more meaningful quote about life, I know, but it's the funny stuff that gets me through life. If I couldn't laugh, something would have driven me batty by now.

I only have a few minutes before I'm off to work, so today has to be quick! For the other days, so far, I've been able to narrow it down to one, but it is very hard to pick only one book. Instead, I picked only one author. I have read all of Neil Gaiman's adult books so far, and I can't explain how he retells and reinvents mythology and stories in such an entrancing way. My favorites are American Gods and Anansi Boys. I just love stories, and he is the best storyteller I know.

Lost

I love a lot of TV shows, but this is the only one I remember watching for its entire run and loving this much. They are about to start the sixth and final season and I have been in love the whole time. Yes, they are continually going in a million directions just when you think you know what's going on, but that's part of what makes it so maddening and interesting. I love that they focus on characters, along with their mysterious and crazy plot. I can't wait for next month!

I had a dream this morning that every inanimate object that was made out of metal came to life and tried to kill everyone. I think it is because I am reading Mistborn (in the book, the magic comes from metallic elements). In my dream, others and I were trying to hide away in houses, but we had to throw away every little piece of metal, or it would come after you. It is odd that when I woke up, I was certain I'd had the same dream once before.
